Earlier this month, I wrote about the Iranian leadership’s evil in the U.S. and Germany and how they try to kidnap and assassinate dissidents and former U.S. officials on our soil and in Europe. One of the people I mentioned was Jamshid Sharmahd, a California resident and German citizen. In 2020, Iran abducted him in Dubai. Today, he was executed.
Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and their team could have gotten Sharmahd out. Last year, they paid a $6 billion ransom for five Americans taken hostage by the regime in Iran. All five had foolishly traveled to Iran despite the risks. The only person left behind was Sharmahd. Unlike the others, Sharmahd wasn’t stupid enough to go there. He had been kidnapped in Dubai.
This is the same as journalist Jamal Khashoggi, who was killed in Turkey by the Saudi government. Khashoggi was suspected to have been on the Qatari payroll, with ties to the Muslim Brotherhood.
Of course, none of this excuses killing him, but he was hardly a good guy. Yet American left-wing media and Democrats were up in arms, so much so that it caused a diplomatic crisis.
When running for president, Biden called Saudi Arabia a pariah state because of this. Harris said that Saudi Arabia must be held accountable. They put the Saudis in the penalty box until oil prices went up. Then he went to Riyadh to apologize and get the Saudis to pump oil so Democrats would not lose the midterms.
But nobody batted an eye for Sharmahd, even though Sharmahd was actually fighting against our enemy and for freedom in Iran.
Worse, the administration never even acknowledged Sharmahd, a green card holder and U.S. national, as a wrongfully detained U.S. national.
Unlike Khashoggi, Sharmahd was not a fixture in Washington with friends in high places. Unlike Brittney Griner, he was not a celebrity. As a result, he was fully ignored and ultimately executed. His only crime was not being a progressive poster child.
This puts Americans more at risk. The administration will not do anything about it, and Iran learns again that it can get away with murdering Americans. Whether it be Donald Trump and Mike Pompeo or Iranian–American dissidents and journalists, everybody is at even greater risk.
The first duty of a government is to protect its own people.
Again and again, Biden and Harris have failed to do this against Iran. Even though Harris claims that no American is in combat today, Iran has killed several U.S. military members just this year. It is trying to kill Trump administration officials, including the former president himself. It is trying to kill journalists. It just killed an American national. And Biden isn’t doing anything about it.
Biden and Harris have failed to protect Americans’ lives for four years, and they will fail if they get another four years.
