It doesn’t matter who we hate, or how much we hate them, either the Rule of Law is bigger than our emotions, or there are no laws worth having. That’s why, for the most part, Donald Trump (if he wins) should avoid the legal targeting of his opponents that has fixated Democrat elected officials and talking heads for months. There are, however, a few exceptions. Liz Cheney is at the top of that list.
The New York Post is reporting that Cheney (illegally) tried to pressure the Jan 6 committee’s “star witness” Cassidy Hutchinson prior to her testimony and behind her lawyer’s back in an effort to replace the attorney with one more friendly to the committee’s effort. That is well beyond unethical, it is a criminal act to undermine the rule of law. Cheney also participated in the selective editing of Jan 6 surveillance videos shown to the committee, and encouraged the DOJ to engage in targeting attorneys representing Trump and other defendants.
Cheney sees Trump – as do many others with similar Trump Derangement Syndrome – as so uniquely deplorable that the Rule of Law doesn’t matter. The only thing that counts in their world is taking Trump, and everyone supporting Trump, down. But it does matter, a lot. It’s the thread our under-policed, over-criminalized society is hanging by, and people like Liz Cheney actively engaged in cutting that thread should absolutely be prosecuted.
Lock her up.
