South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial law yesterday in response to non-existent threats of North Korean infiltrator forces and unnamed communist elements in their own society. What really happened? Yoon and his wife are facing charges of corruption. Rather than be indicted, he declared himself dictator. That didn’t hold up long. While South Korean military forces initially followed his orders to shut down parliament and takeover all news outlets, his own Party publicly opposed President Yoon, and less than a day after the declaration, the S. Korean parliament voted unanimously to overturn the order.
But what if the “soldiers” following those initial orders didn’t have minds of their own? What if they weren’t thinking human beings trained to respect the rule of law? What if they were truly unstoppable forces with no ability to think for themselves? What if they were robots?
Is this hyperbole? No. Watch the videos from Boston Dynamics. This one is two years old, so you can be sure they are WAY ahead of this.
What happens when government leaders no longer need anything but a keyboard to totally dominate their society? A small army of these things is all it would take to turn S. Korea into a permanent demesne of the Yoon family. Dictators like Yoon would be untouchable.
And governments, local and national, across the globe are eagerly buying into this technology. Combine robots with AI monitoring of populations, and the ability of government to dominate their populations will be complete. As such, we’ve entered what might be the most important, and dangerous, period in the history of humanity. The AI/Robot revolution is underway, and nobody is talking about putting in the guardrails needed to ensure that what could be the next Enlightenment doesn’t become the new Dark Age.
