The Tampa Bay Rays have been on a decades-long quest to get a new stadium built on Tampa to replace the aging (and awful) ballpark they’ve played in and which no one wants to visit.
According to Axios, there may finally be light at the end of the tunnel, at least until the Southern Poverty Law Center shows up. What does the SPLC have to do with a building a new baseball stadium? Graft. SPLC says that Black residents were displaced to build the original stadium, and wants to extract reparations from the citizens of Tampa-St. Pete.
There isn’t anyone being displaced by the current rebuild plans. But this is now standard operating procedure for leftist legal orgs: find any large bag of public cash, and threaten a race-baiting lawsuit if a portion of it can’t be redirected into the pockets of the org and their allies.
Tampa and the Rays should tell SPLC to pound sand. Florida has plenty of that.
